Claiming FAQ
What is claiming?
You're probably sharing your wish list with multiple people who all want to give you gifts. In order to prevent you receiving duplicate gifts, all your givers must coordinate somehow. wishlist.link helps them coordinate with claiming.
Once someone has claimed an item, others looking at your list will see the item marked as "Claimed". That will be a sign to them not to give you that item.
Won't this spoil what gifts I'm getting?
As long as you're logged in when you look at your own wish list, you won't see which items are claimed. They'll appear as usual.
So if you don't want to be spoiled, be careful to be logged in before you view your list!
(If you're managing the list for someone else, you probably do want to see which items have been claimed. You can toggle visibility on the list's "Change settings" page under "Editors and Claimed Visibility".)
How do I claim an item?
If you're looking at someone else's wish list, claim an item like so:
- Click the "Claim" button next to the item.
- In the dialog box that comes up, enter your email address and hit "OK".
- That's it! You should now see that the item is claimed.
(You can't claim items on your own wish list, unless you log out or use an incognito browser.)
Oops, I can't/won't give that item after all. Can I unclaim it?
Sure can! Look for the email you received at the email address you entered when claiming the item. In that email is a "Release claim" link. Click that and the claim will be released.
Don't have that email anymore, or entered the wrong email address when claiming? Another option is to ask the list's owner to remove and re-add the item to the list.
